Make it stand out.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

The Sound of History is an exploratory web-based application which allows users to search a day in history (1960s – 2000s) or click on a suggested event and see the top 10 Billboard Top 100 songs and 10 New York Times articles from that date in history.

The Sound of History is a collaborative Big Data Architecture group project between myself and five other computer science students: Adam Ten Hoeve (back-end), Ben Sinnett (back-end), Dylan Fox (full stack), Taylor Gunther (project manager), and Andrea DeVore (front-end). Personally, I worked on designing and building the front-end of the app as well as working with the other front-end engineers on my team to design the Class Diagram of the front-end architecture.

We wanted to create an exploratory system which allowed people to explore the relationships between trending music and historic events. In order to build the application, we built most of the system in a React Web App using node.js. The Billboard songs are stored into MongoDB from a Billboard Top 100 npm package and the NYT articles are called via the NYT API within the react application. Due to Amazon Web Credentials, the original GitHub repo is private. However, a public read only copy of the GitHub repo can be found here.
