Marco Ortiz Torres
Principal Software Engineer & Engineering Manager
Hello, welcome to my v-log
I've spent my career building software that solves real problems. Sometimes that has meant starting with a blank page and building an application from the ground up. Other times it has meant taking over existing systems, understanding what works, identifying what doesn't, and leading the effort to make them faster, more reliable, and easier to maintain.
Over the years I've worked across machine learning, statistical analysis, biomedical research, automation, and software engineering. More recently, my focus has expanded beyond the technical work itself. I enjoy building teams, mentoring engineers, and creating an environment where people can do their best work. The best projects I've been part of weren't successful because one person had all the answers. They succeeded because the right people were able to challenge each other, learn from each other, and work toward the same goal.
Outside of engineering, I create because I enjoy learning new disciplines. I've spent years producing music, photographing people and places, editing videos, designing graphics, exploring game development, and even experimenting with fashion design. None of these are career pivots. They're different ways of exercising the same curiosity and developing the same design instincts that influence how I approach software.
I don't believe good engineering is just about writing code. It's about understanding people, communicating ideas clearly, and building solutions that others genuinely enjoy using. Whether I'm leading a team, designing an interface, or architecting a new system, that's the standard I try to hold myself to.
Thank you for visiting my page, if you have some extra time read The Last Question by Isaac Asimov. It's one of my favorite stories.
