Personification of OS 1.

Samantha

Her has always been a movie that fascinated me. Someone falling in love with a mind, rather than a body. However, I have always wondered what Samantha would look like. Sure she could look like her voice actress Scarlett Johansson, but I don’t want it to be that simple.

Characteristics

I see Samantha as a confident and free woman. As she is a computer, she should have access to all fashion information, so she would have the ability to fit in, but be able to stand out. From her ability act without even having a body, Samantha seems like a strong and independent person.

Setting

A retro utopia. We’ve advanced so far that we have moved backwards in time following old fashion trends and mid-century modern interior design. It appears like some gender roles have been switched, but it feels so normal you wouldn’t notice.

First Drafts

I wanted to make the pose look like she had just been created. She’s studied how to walk and how to stand, but once she moves into the real world she isn’t quite able to catch her balance.

Inspiration

A lot of my inspiration came from Gucci models. They all seem to have this awkward look to them that also sparks confidence. The Gucci clothes themselves were a little too much so I went more for a business look with a more flirty twist. The whole movie is focused on finding love and I think Theodore first was attracted to Samantha’s silly and flirty personality.

The final outfit was an oversized cropped blazer. I was going to put a corset or laced bra over, but I felt it would put too much focus on the waist. I extended the belt and ribbons because I wanted this sense of freedom, like these she cut these restraints from cyber space ignorer to come to the physical plane. I decided not to add shoes and opened up the blazer because this would be her first time in the real world and Im sure she would want to explore all of the physical sensations. I added glasses to give her more of a studious look, but also because she is used to looking through a lens since she would only see the real world through a camera.

I’m happy with the end result, there are some aspect I would change like adding in accessories and small details, but this is where I’ll leave this project for now.
