Coco Made Me Do It.

This design was inspired by the song Coco Made Me Do It by Lexie and my friend Coco Zu. If you listen to the song Lexie repeats “Coco made me do it” in her hook, essentially putting any blame for her wrong doings onto high fashion.

The fact of the matter for myself is that I am willing to do just about anything for the sake of fashion. If I can’t afford it I make it or find the next best thing. I wouldn’t go as far as anything illegal where in court my only testimony is that “coco made me do it,” but there’s nothing that will stop me from wearing what I want to. The irony for this song is how my friend Coco constantly pushes me out of my comfort zone and forces me to try new things. So in a sense, “Coco made me do” all these new things.

After explaining this to Coco I saw it fitting to make a shirt as an homage to these two influencers in my life. The design is a simple graphic t-shirt that replicates Gucci’s famous floral patterns and iconic font. I was considering doing more of a Channel styled graphic, but after talking through the different designs with Coco, we wanted to have some separation from the Channel brand. We ultimately went for a serif typeface to keep the text classy and the drew inspiration from all of Gucci’s silk scarfs. We knew some people might be confused by this, but preferred the idea of those people coming up and asking about it. Weeks after printing the shirts, we did have a lot of people approach us asking about the shirt, more specifically how they could get their own.

This was just a fun quick design and only two shirts were hand printed one in black and one in white, here you can see Coco wearing the white one.
